JOHN ONATZ, ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER, WARREN POLICE DEPT: “JUST A FREAK SITUATION AND YOU CAN ONLY HOPE YOU NEVER SEE IT AGAIN.” A dog groomer attacked by an animal. It’s led to many questions tonight. Good Evening I’m Dave Sess. And I’m Mandy Noell. That dog groomer is recovering tonight. She was working on the animal when it suddenly attacked. 27 First News Reporter Nadine Grimley got a hold of the 9-1-1 calls placed right after it happened. It’s our top story tonight at six. CALLER: “I NEED SOMEBODY HERE RIGHT AWAY SHE’S BLEEDING BAD.” That’s the call to 911 that sent emergency responder’s to Dar’s Dog Parlour off Elm Road. JOHN ONATZ/ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER, WARREN POLICE DEPT.: ” WHEN I GOT THERE THE WORST FEARS PLAYED OUT THAT A GROOMER WAS ACTUALLY BITTEN BY A DOG THAT SHE WAS WORKING ON THAT WOULD TURN ON HER LIKE THAT.” CALLER: “I HAVE A DOG GROOMER THAT GOT BIT BY A DOG.” DISPATCHER: “OK, HOW BAD?” CALLER: “LIKE, REALLY.. BAD. SHE GOT BOTH ARMS AND ON HER LEG.” Animal Control Officer John Onatz says the woman had the large schnauzer on a grooming table when it began biting her. He says employees were able to get the dog in a cage until it’s owner arrived. JOHN ONATZ/ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER, WARREN POLICE DEPT: “FIRST TIME I’VE EVER HAD A GROOMER INCIDENT LIKE THIS WITH A DOG.” NADINE GRIMLEY/WKBN 27 FIRST NEWS – WARREN: “ONATZ SAYS THE DOG HAD BEEN GROOMED HERE BEFORE BUT FOR WHATEVER REASON MONDAY THE DOG JUST SNAPPED.” The woman was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital by ambulance for treatment of her injuries. Since the dog’s vaccinations were up to date, it was released back to it’s owner. According to a police radio log she took the animal to a veterinarian. JOHN ONATZ/ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER, WARREN POLICE DEPT: “THE LADY WHO WAS BIT WAS VERY TEARFUL AS WELL FEELING BAD FOR THE DOG OWNER AND EVERYTHING JUST A BAD SITUATION ALL THE WAY AROUND.” Onatz says there’s nothing criminal to charge the owner with.
