Spokane accepts over 100 animals from kill shelters


MORE THAN 100 ANIMALS ARE FINDING NEW HOMES HERE IN THE INLAND NORTHWEST. ‘WINGS OF RESCUE’ PICKED THOSE ANIMALS UP FROM KILL SHELTERS THIS MORNING. AND FLEW THEM TO COEUR D’ALENE. KXLY4’S DREW REEVES IS WORKING 4 YOU. WITH WHAT’S NEXT FOR THESE ANIMALS. DREW? NADINE. THE SHELTERS THAT PICKED THESE ANIMALS UP TODAY ARE CONFIDENT THAT IT WON’T TAKE LONG FOR THEM TO GET ADOPTED. MULTIPLE SHELTERS WERE THERE TO MEET THE PLANES AS IT TRANSPORTED 162 CATS AND DOGS TO THE AREA. THE BULK OF THOSE ANIMALS. GOING TO LOCAL SHELTERS LIKE SPOKANIMAL, THE SPOKANE HUMANE SOCIETY AND THE KOOTENAI HUMANE SOCIETY. SOME WILL ALSO HEAD TO MONTANA. AND OTHERS TO SEATTLE. THE ANIMALS TOOK OFF FROM MEMPHIS EARLY THIS MORNING. THEY COME FROM SHELTERS IN AREAS LIKE TENNESSEE, ARKANSAS AND MISSISSIPPI. MANY OF THOSE SHELTERS ARE STRUGGLING FINANCIALLY TO KEEP THOSE PETS ALIVE. :19 – :33 JEFF BERGSTROM/ANIMAL CARE TECHNICIAN, SPOKANIMAL Down there they’re overcrowded and there’s just no room for them, and financially they’re having trouble keeping them. So, there’s two options and one of them’s not a good option. The other option is flying them out to this region and over on the west side and finding them new homes. THIS IS THE THIRD YEAR THAT SPOKANE HAS ACCEPTED ANIMALS VIA WINGS OF RESCUE. SPOKANIMAL SAYS LAST YEAR IT ADOPTED OUT THREE-THOUSAND OF THOSE ANIMALS. AND HOPES TO DO THE SAME THIS YEAR.
