Hey, Buddy. You know pets can be a lot of fun, …but they can also be a lot of work. Especially around flea season. Now your vet can give you the best flea treatment options for your pet, but… Hey Buddy, fetch! That’s all right, we’ll work on it. In the meantime, I’m going to show you a few simple things you can do around the house to add an extra layer of protection for your pets. First, you can start by making a simple flea spray. All you have to do is add a couple slices of lemon and a few sprigs of rosemary to some boiling water. Turn that off and let it sit for a few hours. Once it’s cool, you’re gonna strain it and add it to a clean spray bottle. Then all you have to do is, once or twice a day, give your pet’s bedding a nice spray, or any other areas or furniture where you think fleas might like to hang out. Another way to help keep fleas off of your pet is to use a flea collar. But if you don’t happen to have one handy, you can improvise. Just pour a few drops of rosemary, cedar wood, or peppermint oil onto a bandana and tie it comfortably around your pet’s neck. Isn’t that right, Buddy? Yup, that’s right! I smell wonderful. Now if you want to know whether or not fleas have already found their way into your home, you can set up a very simple flea trap. All you need for this is a shallow bowl, some soapy water, and a desk lamp. Right before bed you’re gonna take that shallow bowl and you’re gonna place it in an area of the house where you think you might have fleas. All you have to do is add some of the soapy water to the bowl, then take your desk lamp and place it on the floor so that it shines onto the water. And that’s really it. During the night the fleas will become attracted to the light and hop over to check it out, and that’s when they’ll become trapped in the water. Just remember to secure your pet in a location where they can’t drink the water or knock over the lamp. Night-night, Buddy. And there you have it. Some simple things you can do to help fight fleas. But if none of these homemade approaches are helping, you can always give me a call. I’ll create a customized solution that’ll help keep fleas off of your pet and out of your home.
