Pet parents love their rescues: How Columbus has gone to the dogs

COLLEEN: CENTRAL OHIO IS GOING TO THE DOGS. MIKE: FROM THE BAKERIES– TO DOGGIE SPA’S AND DAYCARE… THE LOCAL PET BUSINESS IS BOOMING! MIKE: AND PET OWNERS CAN’T GET ENOUGH! COLLEEN: TONIGHT NBC4’S HATTIE HAWKS DIGS INTO OUR OBSESSION WITH PAMPERING OUR PETS. HATTIE: HATTIE HAWKS: “FANCY LEASHES, DOG BEDS, AND GOURMET TREATS AREN’T CHEAP BUT PET PEOPLE SAY FOR THEIR DOG, THEY ARE WORTH IT. I TALKED WITH OWNERS, SPECIFICALLY OF RESCUE DOGS, WHO SAY THEY MAY BE CRAZY.. CRAZY IN LOVE.” NESTLED ON FOURTH STREET IN THE SHORT NORTH FRESH BISCUITS IN THE OVEN. AND ICING ON THE CAKE… HAS CUSTOMERS DROOLING AND BEGGING FOR MORE. BECAUSE THIS BAKERY HAS GONE TO DO THE DOGS. MEGHAN YUGULIS, DOG OWNER: “SHE IS A BIG FAN OF THE PUMPKIN TREATS THEY HAVE NOW AND THE CHEESE TREATS.” MEGHAN YUGULIS AND HER 6 YEAR OLD BEEGLE MIX, COW, ARE REGULARS AT THREE DOG BAKERY. MEGHAN YUGULIS, DOG OWNER: “SHE IS NOT EXACTLY A SNACK SNOB BUT SHE WON’T EAT LETTUCE WITHOUT RANCH SO THERE IS THAT.” COW USING ANY OPPORTUNITY TO PIG OUT… AND GO OUT. DOG’S IN COLUMBUS HAVE GREAT SOCIAL LIVES… THEIR PEOPLE WORKING THEIR SCHEDULE AROUND THEM. TANJA TENPENNY, DOG OWNER: “I RACE HOME. I RACE HOME. THEY MAKE FUN OF ME AT WORK BECAUSE WHEN IT’S 4:30 I’M OUT THE DOOR.” TANJA TENPENNY HAS TWO KIDS AND TWO DOGS… BUT WHO HOLDS THE KEY TO HER HEART? TANJA TENPENNY, DOG OWNER: “IT’S REALLY CLOSE. IT’S EVEN. I WOULD HATE TO HAVE TO PICK.” RESCUES TAZ AND TINI… THE RESCUES THAT RESCUED HER. TANJA TENPENNY, DOG OWNER: “I REALLY WASN’T LOOKING FOR HIM WHEN I GOT HIM. HE KIND OF SAVED ME//HE PASSED AWAY AND I WAS CRUSHED. THIS DOG CAME UP TO ME AND LAYED ON MY SHOULDER AND I SOBBED FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF.” LIKE TANJA’S BOSTONS, COW WAS A RESCUE. MEGHAN GOT HER FROM A CONSTRUCTION SITE WHEN SHE WAS A PUP. MEGHAN YUGULIS, DOG OWNER: “I DIDN’T GIVE BIRTH TO HER BUT I DEF REFER TO HER AS BEING MY OLDEST. I KNOW WHEN PEOPLE HAVE KIDS THEY SAY IT’S DIFFERENT AND I TOTALLY RESPECT THAT, THAT’S GREAT BUT I DON’T KNOW SHE IS STILL MY BABY.” WHILE COW’S BED, PERSONAL BATH TUB, AND SOCIAL CALENDAR ISN’T ALWAYS CHEAP. THE LOVE SHE SHARES WITH HER FAMILY… PRICELESS. MEGHAN YUGULIS, DOG OWNER: “SHE IS NOT A FAMILY MASCOT, SHE IS A PART OF OUR FAMILY UNIT AND I REALIZE THAT HER LIFESPAN IS SHORTER THAN MOST HUMANS BUT WE ARE REALLY EXCITED FOR THE TIME WE DO GET TO SPEND WITH HER.” HATTIE HAWKS: “I KNOW ITS HARD TO BELIEVE BUT EVEN I LIKE TO SPOIL MY PET SOMETIMES.. AND BRING HIM TO WORK..WHO COULD RESIST THAT FACE?” COLLEEN: WE HERE AT NBC4 SUPPORT THE DOG OBSESSION AND WANT TO HELP YOU FIND THE PERFECT RESCUE FOR YOUR FAMILY!
