WE’VE GOT YOUR BACK THIS MORNING WITH SOME HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS. IT’S A FUN TIME OF YEAR. BUT IT CAN ALSO BE DANGEROUS. NEWS 8’S BRIAN SPYROS JOINS US LIVE FROM HAMDEN WITH SOME IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION. BRIAN — GOOD MORNING. GOOD MORNING. ON MONDAY NIGHT THIS NEIGHBORHOOD WILL BE FULL OF TRICK-OR-TREATERS. IT DOESN’T TAKE MUCH FOR FAMILIES TO GET CAUGHT UP IN ALL OF THE FUN. WHEN THAT HAPPENS … PEOPLE SOMETIMES FORGET ABOUT SAFETY. SO, HERE ARE SOME TIPS. FIRST, KIDS SHOULD TRAVEL IN A GROUP … ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT. ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE VERY YOUNG.ALSO, MAKE SURE THEIR COSTUMES DON’T OBSTRUCT THEIR VISION. AND MAKE SURE KIDS ARE VISIBIBLE TO CARS. EITHER WALK WITH A FLASHLIGHT OR GLOW STICK. YOU CAN EVEN PUT SOME TYPE OF REFLECTOR ON THEIR COSTUME. HALLOWEEN THIS YEAR IS OBVIOUSLY ON A MONDAY SO A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL BE COMING HOME FROM WORK AS IT STARTS TO GET DARK.EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE MINDFUL OF THAT FACT. GENERALLY THE COMMON THINGS THAT WE SEE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT ARE THE ONES YOU WOULD EXPECT. KIDS AND PARENTS FORGET THEY ARE TRAVELING THROUGH NEIGHBORHOODS, THEY ARE CROSSING ROADS. WE DON’T SHUT DOWN ROADS TO TRAFFIC GENERALLY IN THESE NEIGHBORHOOD AND THEY FORGET THE RULES OF THE ROAD. SO, DRVERS WATCH FOR TRICK OR TREATERS. TRICK OR TREATERS WATCH FOR DRIVERS. USE SIDEWALKS AND CROSS THE STREET IN WELL LIT AREAS. KEITH AND LAURA?BRIAN, ANY ADVICE FOR THOSE OF US WHO WILL BE GIVING OUT CANDY?IF YOU ARE HANDING OUT CANDY MAKE SURE YOUR LIGHTS ARE ON AND THAT ANY SIDEWALKS AND PATHWAYS ARE CLEAR OF ANY OBSTACLES. NOW, IF YOU DON’T WANT ANY TRICK OR TREATERS AT YOUR HOUSE … TURNS YOUR LIGHTS OFF SO THERE’S NO CONFUSION. REPORTING LIVE FROM HAMDEN. I’M BRIAN SPYROS. KEITH AND LAURA BACK TO YOU.
