Insect Pest Control : How to Get Rid of Fleas in the Yard Naturally

I’m Trevor with Monster Pest Control, located
in American Fork, UT, we’re talking about ridding your home of insects, the topic today
is ridding your yard, naturally, from fleas. I’ve got some, what we call diatomaceous earth,
and using diatomaceous earth you can use it on the outside of your home. I’ve got it in
a bulb duster. Basically, when you find an area that’s infested with fleas, you can take
and you can put the dust out on there, out on the different areas. I’ll pour some out
so you can see it. You can take the diatomaceous earth, it is made of like crushed fossils
shells, things like that, so it’s all natural. Basically, pour it around the different areas.
You can put it throughout your whole yard if you want to do so or find those areas that
are most infested, to get rid of the fleas. Also, because it is a natural product, you
can rub it on your animals, dogs, and cats. I recommend, often, to talk to a vet before
you attempt to do something like that and read the label from the diatomaceous earth,
to make sure you do it correctly.

  1. Wow, this is packed full of bad advice. If you read the label, it is for crack and crevice treatment to start with. Any other use of it is well just misuse of a pesticide. Natural yes, however the problem is when it is inhaled, because of the tiny particles of shells, it can get caugt in your lungs. As for rubbing on animals.. bad call

  2. It depends on the state. In NY where I have been an exterminator for twelve years, diatomaceous earth and drione dust can be applied directly to animals. Also, they are labeled for exterior/interior space treatment.

  3. You have to use FOOD GRADE diatomaceous earth on and around your pets. Otherwise you could poison them and yourself.

  4. I wouldn't rub it on animals because it will make them itch. DE does work, but you have to wear a mask as it may irritate your lungs.

  5. found mine at tractor supply. powdering my yard now, and powdered the dog. we'll see if it works. not sure if I should put it on the cats because I think one is pregnant. Does anyone know if it's safe on pregnant animals for fleas?

  6. i HAVE BOUGHT DE DIATOMACEOUS EARTH FOOD GRADE AT HOME DEPOT FOR 10 DOLLARS HUGE BOX. I have not tried to use it in the yard, just helping out those that say where it can be bought.

  7. I was told by a vet that rubbing it on an animal is NOT a good idea because it poses a high risk to damaging the animal's lungs. Using it on the ground, etc., is safer. But caution is important.

  8. You should warn inhaling can hurt the lungs and airways. It really is harsh trust me I know from experience unfortunately. Use a mask.
