Garden & Lawn Pest Control : How to Get Rid of Aphids

Hi this is Yolanda from Vanveen bulbs dot
com. And if you have a garden like I do, or even if you have a small house plant, you’ve
probably had problems with aphids. They’re these green, little, fuzzy bugs that just
cover leaves and eat away at your plant. So an easy way to get rid of them is just wash
them off. So I just throw my house plants in the shower, or I take a hose and just hose
down plants outside when I see any sign of aphids. And make sure and get underneath the
leaves, too, because you want to wash every single aphid off. So if you do that three
days in a row, hose off your plants, whether inside or outside, and you find that you still
have aphids on them, there’s a couple other tricks that I can show you. So there’s all
kinds of recipes on different items that you can use to kill your aphids, but I found a
simple mixture of a little bit of dish washing soap, and some oil, and just put it together
in a spray bottle, and mix it half of combination of that, with water, mix it all up, and just
spray down your plant. And underneath the leaves as well, and above, and make sure and
cover the whole thing. Many times you can get rid of your aphids really easily that
way, and I’ve even tried just putting straight oil onto them, and they can’t breath, it just
suffocates them. And it’s a nice, easy way to get rid of them.

  1. if the aphids were comming from nearby plants in your/neighbor's lawn, wouldn't they just come back?

  2. @kydenj28 might be because it's dish "detergent" not dish "soap" … I would use an actual soap and stay away from dish cleaning products, like a lot of people seem to recommend

  3. I used your recommendation of water oil and soap and now all the leaves on my zucchini are wilting and turning transparent. I made sure not to spray it in sunlight so as not to fry it and still it seams as though my plants are all going to die now. I wouldn't recommend this at all.
