Despite previous conviction, Columbus man accused of abusing dogs again

A CENTRAL OHIO MAN ACCUSED OF REPEATEDLY ABUSING ANIMALS IS BACK IN TROUBLE WITH THE LAW. GOOD EVENING, I’M COLLEEN MARSHALL. MIKE: AND I’M MIKE JACKSON. THIS TIME, IT’S BECAUSE OF THE CHILLING DISCOVERY, INVESTIGATORS SAY THEY MADE IN HIS SOUTHWEST COLUMBUS HOME. MIKE: NBC4’S DAN PEARLMAN JOINS US LIVE DOWNTOWN WITH WHAT THEY SAY THEY FOUND.. DAN: THE MAN AT THE CENTER OF THIS STORY HAD A COURT DATE TODAY. HE SHOWED UP HERE AND HE WAS ARRESTED. THAT’S BECAUSE HE HAS A HISTORY OF ANIMAL ABUSE. WE TOLD YOU ABOUT CORY DEWBERRY IN 2013. THAT’S WHEN HE WAS ARRESTED AND LATER PLACED ON PROBATION – WHEN AUTHORITIES FOUND SEVERAL DOGS AT HIS PICKERINGTON HOME LIVING IN FILTH. TODAY… NATS I KNOCKED ON THE DOOR AT HIS COLUMBUS ADDRESS. NATS NO FAMILY ANSWERED. WE CAME HERE BECAUSE OF THE NINE NEW CHARGES DEWBERRY FACES. VICTORIA NOGAY – COLUMBUS HUMANE AGENT, “ORIGINALLY WE WERE RECEIVING CALLS ABOUT DOGS BEING LEFT OUTSIDE WITHOUT FOOD, WATER OR SHELTER.” COLUMBUS HUMANE TELLING THEY CHECKED THE HOME. COURT DOCUMENTS INDICATING THE DOGS WERE SAFE BUT THOSE CALLS ESCALATED. “MOST RECENTLY, IN JULY, WE WERE CONTACTED BY A WOMAN WHO CLAIMED SHE PURCHASED A DOG FROM DEWBERRY AND IT DIED WHILE IT WAS UNDER HIS CARE FOR TRAINING.” THAT CALL I’M TOLD PROMPTED OFFICIALS TO EXECUTE THIS SEARCH WARRANT. WHAT THEY SAY THEY DISCOVERED DISTURBING. “THERE WERE SEVERAL DOGS THAT WERE CONFINED IN CRATES ALL THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE. NONE OF THEM HAD ACCESS TO WATER AND THEIR CRATES SMELLED STRONGLY OF URINE.” “WE ALSO FOUND AND IMPOUNDED TWO DECEASED CHICKENS AND ONE DECEASED RABBIT FROM THE PROPERTY.” SO ON THE HEALS OF THAT DEWBERRY TODAY SHOWED FOR COURT. HE WAS ARRESTED I’M TOLD FOR VIOLATING HIS PROBATION SET IN THAT CASE FIVE YEARS AGO. AND NOW HIS FUTURE REMAINS UNCLEAR. DAN: RECORDS INDICATE DEWBERRY IS NO LONGER HERE AT THE FRANKLIN COUNTY JAIL. I DID STOP BACK AT HIS HOME A COUPLE OF HOURS AGO. STILL NOBODY HOME. LOCAL FOR YOU IN COLUMBUS, DAN PEARLMAN NBC4.

  1. Animal cruelty is no minor matter. It is also an early indicator of psychopathy and criminal deviance. Punishments for this type of behavior should be severe.

fun little side fact: Nazi germany was the first nation to adopt animal cruelty laws in the modern era. This fact does not harmonize well with the allied propaganda of the time and current propaganda still deployed about the 3rd riech.
